thanks
what lenses did you use?
do you have something to help focusing? viewfinder or monitor?
I used a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L lens. I manual focus using the 7D's LCD. It's not that bad once you get used to it mate.
Why is 24p so favourable mate?
Does 24p look different to 30p then? Don't sell the 5D just yet. The lowlight capabilities must be amazing! I'm going to try out lowlight tomorrow night so we'll see how the 7D handles that ;)
Take care Byron
But anyways, I downloaded your source file and put it into Final Cut, and walla, that first shot was playing back like you would expect 60p to play back in real time i.e. super sharp motion with no strobiness at all, basically "video look" galore.
I'm not sure what editing soft your using but if you want to see what I mean, just play it back within your editing software to see the difference.
But if 60p looks that good in real-time when you play it back on any player, then hell, yeah you might as well always shoot with it, and you'll have the freedom to have proper slow mo...
But at the end of the day, while everything I've said could possibly be complete nonsense, and not true. What I DO know is that that first shot looks super swell awesome on vimeo and quicktime player =) however it's achieved.
And I forgot to say, the editing was great in that clip! And such a good song choice. Keep it up.
Would be great to see some shallow DOF in low light... i suspect this 7D will be more than adequate.
Cheers
Justin
Maybe thats what it was making it look different.
I'm using FCP and yes it does look different in there. Much more video look and smoother. I kinda dig this look though!
Thanks a lot for your kind words Byron i really appreciate them ;)
I hope it's adequate hehe ;)
good camera and like the clarity...
teaser Videos up on Facebook..
check uum out?
filmed My Mate Dick riding a few bowls at Harrow this morning on Bmx, so i'll post that to this week...
totally different filming BMX to Skating...
Yeh throw up ur BMX adventure Ol' Skool i'd like to see what you got ;)
Thanks a lot for your comment ;)
If I was you I would keep shooting with the 5D until the next batch of Canon camera's. They will most likely have higher framerates and be full frame.
I can't wait for that day ;)
I did try the lens out handheld but quickly went back to putting it on a tripod haha, it's pretty hard to keep her steady!
If you can cope with that though you'll find the 7D the better camera ;)
I didn't think i'd get mine til later this week. Anyways you know you are going to love it so let the excitement build up ;)
It's like we're kids again getting new toys haha!
Just a question , I see on the 7d website that he allows to shoot at 30fps, and you manage to shot a slow motion at 60fps .. How it's possible ?
Do you think that the 7D is better than a Camera at the same price ?
The 7D shoots at 24,25 or 30fps in 1080p and 50 or 60fps in 720p mate.
I think the 7D is the best camera in it's price range for myself. It really depends what you want to do with it. I wanted a camera that could do amazing video and could take decent photos when i needed to. It's certainly held up to what i need it for!
Your are right ! I think the 7D it's the best way to make amazing shot and beautiful picture.
Wu Tang for Ever !!!
Wu Tang Forever ;)
But i am in two mind between camera and reflex.
I see Dave King movies shot with a Panasonic AG-HVX201AE but the price is too expensive . One of my friend shot with D90, and the rush are good . But when i see your vids, it make me feel so crazy to see this quality, and the price are more reasonnable...
In addition i don't know a lot of things about photography and video so your help is welcome !!
( sorry i'am french my english is poor )
I would still defo recommend a 7D or GH1 mate ;)
If you need any help with photos or videos in the future I'll try my best to help out bro, don't hesitate to contact me ;)
with the 5d the gamma 1.8 became a 2.2 when I convert in prores. it's very unpleasant :/
and you gotta love that 60p :O amazing slow-mo
In all my years of being involved in BMX I've met some crazy and awesome characters and this is what I love about BMX ;)
Congratulations on the video, i'll be following you :)
Thanks

Muito boa as imagens!
CONGRATULATIONS! :D
stoked!
Thanks for your kind words!
Did you simply dropped it on timeline or you had to do some processing to make it look that smooth.
Beautiful video !! thanks for sharing
In Vegas, I guess it's called 'Resampling' ?
The 7D shoots at 24, 25 or 30fps at 1080p and 50 or 60 at 720p.
I hope this answers your question!
i really want a 7d,
what would you consider an "all-around" lens for the price and the kind of quality you get?
It was all filmed at 60fps and then slowed down in FCP. remember to turn off frame blending and you should see similar results ;)
i mean after all the hype you built up on flickr haha
I hope I've done the job so far hehe, they'll be more to come from me though in the future ;)
i'm actually looking to buy a 7d somewhere, but since they are new, i cant find any cheap deals.
Dad's going to singapore though for a few days in a week or so, i asked him if he could pick one up over there for a cheaper price. Hopefully he can and ill be able to create beautiful DOF shots and slowmotion like yours.
Also as far as photography goes, it would be an amazing camera for that too. it would kick my 450d's ass haha!
Excelent Job on this video mate!
Thanks for your kind words ;)
I'm a photographer who found your work while checking out info on the new 7D, but I'd love to see some of your bmx videos entered up on trickcomp.com, there's not much there yet, so check it out while it's still new.
I'll take a look at that trickcomp site soon and possibly throw up some BMX videos. Thanks for the recommendation ;)
24p @1/48 shutter speed, lest see the jurkyness in the shoot
I will shoot some 24p stuff at low shutter speeds soon for you ;)
You really have to look for it. I am quite sure you could have either change the frm rate or maybe it due to editing the vid...
This is the only thing with me and the sound in and out!
I'm going to be recording sound with a Zoom H4n so that shouldn't be a problem in the future ;)
I don't understand how the 5D MK II shoots 30/1080 with one Digic IV Processor but the 7D, which has DUAL Digic IV Processors, can't handle 60/1080.
:'(
Hehe just messing with ya man ;)
