How can these people have not filed massive lawsuits against these companies? It's pretty obvious what the problem is and the only thing these giant companies understand is money, so hit them where it hurts!
The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission is in the process of conducting an investigation on these water contamination issues in Weld County. They have shown so far that in the case of Amee Ellsworth the gas migrating into her water source can be linked directly to the deep underground layers that drilling companies are aiming for. Is that proof enough? No, not really. It will take an extensive hydro-geological study to determine the cause of the migration. These reports are on line and can be accessed through the COGCC website.
However I have seen widespread contamination of water, air and soil like those shown in the videos and significant health effects in drilling areas from Pennsylvania to Texas to Colorado to Wyoming to Louisiana and many places in between. This is a huge industry with a huge reach.
The 2005 energy bill exempts Hydraulic Fracturing from the reporting requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act and currently (as under the Bush Admin) the EPA is not investigating the majority of these areas. This drilling technique is relatively new and unmonitored. But yes, a thorough investigation is needed. Keep watching, the above videos from other states and you will see what I mean... thanks
