Short film made from start to finish in 24 hours for Noomaraton.

Handheld with Canon EOS 500D ( Digital Rebel T1i / Kiss X3 ).

    this is great work
what did you end up using in addition to the t1i for this piece?
  • Anders Bäckman 3 months ago
This was all run and gun without any accessories.
Just the rebel and one lens. Handheld. Natural light.

Really really nice ! I like it as well!
Take care when you shoot two people talking to obey the "180 degree rule" (search the internet for that, too hard to explain with my poor english. In short the camera should always be on one of the side of the actors.

Oh yes, it's so well explained here : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/180_degree_rule
  • Anders Bäckman 3 months ago
    Thanks! :)
Yes, I know about the 180 degree rule but as long as the audience isn't becoming confused I don't see any problems breaking it. The rule is only there for logical perceptions that an audience follows.
  • Philippe Jadin 3 months ago
I have to forget rules sometimes. I was not confused, but I noticed you broke the rule. Most probably because I had a class about it last week :-)

Shot reverse shot are so interesting to experiment in so different ways. I guess it's a huge base in story telling.

i am so excited getting my 500d soon ..
did you just use the 18-55 mm lens?
  • Anders Bäckman 2 months ago
    Thanks! I used a 17-55.
  • infoPimps.Rakesh plus 2 months ago
17-55 is an awesome lens! 18-55 is the worst lens they make, it's really soft :(

This wasn't bad for using the t1i and a kit lens. You must have color graded it using something as it's a bit washed out looking. What is a Kiss X3?
  • Anders Bäckman 2 months ago
Yep. It's graded. Nope, no kit lens here. I used a 17-55. Kiss X3 is the japanese name for the T1i.

That was absolutely brilliant! The cinematography, direction and editing were all top notch, good job guys. The color correction is awesome, wonderful tones that really support the story and take it to the next level.

    Hi!
Did you convert the video somehow to 25p oder 24p? I recognize a "ghosting" effect, especially when motion appears (of the actors in the film). You see it, when she leaves the house and when she arrives at the bar. Is this effect also appearing in the orignal file?

By the way: Great story and mood!

    Greetings
    Seb
  • Håkon Lundvall 2 months ago
I don't know about the converting. Maybe the photographer can answer the question. Thanks for the comment though

hey guys! really cool movie. it's poetic! You just used the T1i and with which program did you edited? did you need some sort of conversion or just inserted the clip from the SD to the timeline? I thinking about buying that Canon. Anyway, great color.
    thx!
    ciao
  • Anders Bäckman 25 days ago
    Thanks a lot! :)

Yep, just the T1i with a 17-55 and shot it all handheld in natural light. Edited in Premiere and After Effects - straight from the SD into the timeline.

This is a gentle, sweet, very touching film. The way you present the characters with a pastel color palette, not too sentimental, respectful of the characters and their relationships, was just right to me. The whole thing is like a music box: satisfying, innocent and self-contained, with a touch of melancholy, but beautiful. Excellent work.

By the way, what software did you use to get that effect where the computer graphic dialogue follows the movement of the characters? Is that an AfterEffects plug-in or a feature of the software?
  •
  • Håkon Lundvall 12 days ago
We've used a feature in the software. Motion tracking. I'm no specialist though. Just the scriptwriter.
Thanks for the poetic response. Love to hear from you, especially since your not just concerned about what lenses we've used ;)

  • Anders Bäckman 11 days ago
Thanks! It's hand-held with a stabilized lens plus some stabilization in post.

If this is hand-held you have the steadiest hand in the world.
