A day at a beach in Japan
My actually very first GH1-footage, taken on a nice summer day at beaches in Zushi and Enoshima.
Also my first edit using FCP. Wanted to test the workflow and see, how it will come out on Vimeo. For some shots, I should have used a tripod, but you can't show up with this on a beach here in Japan ... or people look at you like at the guy in the video ... hahaha ...
So I tried the FCP stabilizer on some takes, but unfortunately it brings some loss of quality.
Most shots taken at full zoom and some with a ND filter too. Note to myself: Using cameras with a narrow DOF, like the GH1, the focus should actually always be locked if possible.
The video is also maybe not deinterlaced ( I am not sure ). I exported the file from FCP in Apple ProRes 422 HQ and converted it to 1280x720, 30 fps by using Quicktime.
Still working on a perfect workflow to obtain the full quality. Nevertheless ... here are some impressions of beaches close to Tokyo ... enjoy ;-)))

I like the feel of the GH1, how does it do with low light?
It works fine with low light too, but there are of course limits working with the kit lens. But if you look at the sunset shots, the fast moving surfer are still looking clear ... even it was nearly completely dark. That's quite amazing and I was pretty surprised.
Good luck getting the workflow down. Settling on a workflow is probably the most difficult thing with FCP.
Not sure if it's my connection or the original video, but there were a couple of choppy moments.
But really spectacular shots - keep up the good work!
Regarding the "choppy moments" ... mmmh ... maybe a problem of your connection or better of the Vimeo server speed. My connection is pretty fast here, 4 GB RAM on board but videos still look choppy sometimes here on Vimeo. Anyway ... I think, the quality can still be increased. Working on that ;-)))
Keep it up!
And ... yeah, the GH1 is amazing. Took a similar footage with my HD3 at the same place a few weeks before, but ... after getting my GH1, I was not in the mood for editing them anymore ;-)))
Very, very nice shots. Again great colours.
Great camera and cameraman :))
Missing Tokyo already after one week back.
Next time I have to go outside Tokyo...........
Liebe Grüsse!!! Zofia
