All sunset shots are right out of the camera. Some color post on the beach shots, but the originals are also already beautiful.

It works fine with low light too, but there are of course limits working with the kit lens. But if you look at the sunset shots, the fast moving surfer are still looking clear ... even it was nearly completely dark. That's quite amazing and I was pretty surprised.

Thanks Philip !!! Not making the most of it yet, but that's the goal ;-))) The GH1 is an amazing camera, just the workflow is a pain in the ass, but that is not a problem of the camera. I think, camera makers should also provide some help with that.

Regarding the "choppy moments" ... mmmh ... maybe a problem of your connection or better of the Vimeo server speed. My connection is pretty fast here, 4 GB RAM on board but videos still look choppy sometimes here on Vimeo. Anyway ... I think, the quality can still be increased. Working on that ;-)))

And ... yeah, the GH1 is amazing. Took a similar footage with my HD3 at the same place a few weeks before, but ... after getting my GH1, I was not in the mood for editing them anymore ;-)))

Hallo Marco, vielen Dank fuer die Blumen. Was den Codec angeht, magst Du recht haben. Habe mal verschiedene ausprobiert und keinen Unterschied in der Qualitaet entdecken koennen. Was mich immer noch quaelt, ist die Frage nach dem "deinterlacing". Bei der Umwandlung der AVCHD files in welchen ProRes Codec auch immer besteht immer die Option "interlaced" zu aktivieren oder nicht. Bei Deaktivierung erscheint in FCP die Meldung "progressiv". Interessant ist aber, dass man zumindest in 720p auch in der Roh-Footage keine Zeichen von Halbbildern erkennen kann ( so die ueblichen Streifen und Versetze ). Mir kommt daher langsam der Verdacht, dass die GH1 generell in vollen Frames und nicht wie bei Camcordern ueblich in Halbbildern aufnimmt. Dagegen wuerde allerdings die Tatsache sprechen, dass die europaeische Version mit 25/50fps auf den PAL-Standard ausgerichtet ist.

Die Frage des "De-Interlacings" ist leider sehr wichtig. De-Interlace ich etwas, was bereits in Vollbildern vorliegt, sinkt die Qualitaet und umgekehrt ebenfalls.

In Foren findet man zwar einige Meinungen dazu, von denen viele auch kompetent und plausibel klingen ... nur leider stimmen sie oft nicht ueberein ;-)))

Du stellst Dir die gleichen Fragen wie ich. Auch ich frage mich jedes Mal, ob ich hier was aktivieren oder deaktivieren muss. Im Prinzip steht 720p60 ja für 60 Vollbilder (eigentlich ja nur 59,irgendwas). Im deutschen Modell sind das bei 720 nur 50 Vollbilder, da die Bildrate bei PAL ja bei 25 Bilder pro Sekunde, bzw. 50 Halbbildern pro Sekunde liegt. Daher nimmt die GH1 im PAL-Modell bei 1080 mit 50i auf, packt das Ganze aber in 25p. So richtig Licht in das Codec-Wirrwarr hat mir auch noch keiner geben können.

Dann steht das "p" fuer progressiv und "Interlaced" sollte nicht aktiviert sein. Danke fuer den Hinweis. Manchmal sieht man den Wald vor lauter Baeumen nicht. Im Full HD Mode scheint es schwieriger zu sein aber ich filme eh lieber in 720p. Mehr kann man im Moment ohnehin weder auf eine DVD bannen noch uebers Internet streamen. 60 fps sehen ausserdem bedeutend besser aus.
