Jith Paul is a filmmaker based in Ottawa, Canada, a producer, director, cinematographer and editor of several award-winning short films, documentaries and music videos. His directorial debut, Algebra, a short film about a painter grappling with the loss of his eyesight won the Best Technical Quality award at the Digi60 Filmmaker’s Festival 2012. Jith produced the short films “Polar Bear Love”, “Moments” and ”Perfect“ all semi finalists in CBC Television’s Short Film Faceoff in 2011, 2012 and 2013 respectively.

Jith is an Associate Member in the Canadian Cinema Editors (CCE) and is the editor of the documentaries ”North Boys“, winner of the Founder’s award at the Yorkton Film Festival in 2012 and “This is My Witness”, an Official Selection for the 2012 Amnesty International Reel Awareness Human Rights Film Festival.

Jith is a graduate of the television broadcasting program at Algonquin College and holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Waterloo. He is the president of Treepot Media, Inc. which he founded in 2010. He has served as a member of grant proposal juries at SAW Video and the Ontario Arts Council and was a member of the festival jury for the 2012 One World Film Festival.

He considers filmmaking a team sport and is keen on fostering collaboration amongst emerging artists. This led to the launch of Treepot.tv, a channel streaming a series of webisodes that feature musicians and actors, promoting learning and sharing amongst local filmmakers. After several popular episodes and with a committed fan base, Treepot.tv approved for streaming on iTunes, six months after its launch. Treepot.tv was nominated for Canada’s Best Music Website in CBCRadio 3 Spotlight in 2011.

Eager to step things up to the next level found Jith started collaborating with several local filmmakers from Say Ten Productions, Symphonic Filmworks, NHS Studio, JDL Pictures, SplitKlips, Parktown and Studio6 Productions on several short films and music videos. He founded the Treepot Indie Filmmaker Showcase, a celebration of work by indie artists and filmmakers as a venue to share some of these projects other curated pieces that represent the the best in local indie short films, documentaries and music videos. The inaugural event played to a capacity theatre in September 2011 and the subsequent events have seen emerging filmmakers showcase their work at a variety of venues across Ottawa. He is also a partner in IndieKoala (IndieKoala.com) an artist-run on-demand service for indie films and documentaries.

Jith freelances as a photographer, camera operator, DIT/DMT and editor. His recent clients include Evolv Health, Affinity Productions, inMotion, The Centre for Equity and Human Rights at the University of Ottawa and Help Lesotho.
