I went down to shoot some tests on the Scarlet at the Kaka'ako waterfront park in Honolulu. Shot all this in about 20 minutes during golden hour so the color and light changed really rapidly around me. These adorable Japanese kids that were following me and my dog around let me shoot their portraits. A few of the earlier shots are in RED gamma3 to compare it to RedLogFilm and created some looks and basic corrections to the log curve. I wanted to see how the log curve did with people and landscape. My compression setting was 6:1 at 4K, with a shot at 2K resolution thrown in there which fell apart terribly. I adjusted basic color in Davinci Resolve to do a roundtrip experiment. I used a i7 Hacktintosh to grade and edit the footage which seemed to play back at 1/2 res. Render times are still a bitch though. I'm hoping someone will come up with a more economic alternative to the Red Rocket card.
Hopefully in the next couple weeks I'll have some RAW tests with the Mark III up.
