From June 11, 2013, Gary Stover explores the vast subject of Black Americana and African American Collectables.
"I have bought & sold collectibles associated with the African American community for years, but I've been reluctant to do a show on the subject because, unfortunately, many of the collectibles are disparaging of blacks. Whites have no problem discussing Native American art & artifacts or African tribal collectibles, but we often shy away from Black Americana, maybe because it comes a little too close to home. Recently on the PBS program, "Market Warriors," the African American contestant said that blacks, themselves, are now interested in collecting even those pieces of Black Americana that are pejorative, as these items obviously do provide some context on American/Black American history. In that spirit, therefore, I've decided to tackle the subject of Black Americana in Tuesday's show, and I sincerely hope that I don't end up offending anyone in the process. I will address the ethical issues, and believe me, there are many, but the majority of the show will be simply assessing the various categories and values." -Gary Stover
