Living Environment at Newcomers High School

Karen Ricciardi, a Living Environment teacher at Newcomers High School in Long Island City, New York, supports her ESL students' learning of science and language through the use of scaffolding, visuals and artifacts of previous lessons. She incorporates language acquisition techniques to help students learn the content while they are learning the language. Ms. Riccardi was a New York State Teacher of the Year in 2008.
