South-South Exchanges 2013 involves an artistic exchange between two composers, well known for working with traditional music in their respective countries. The idea is to generate dialogue between the artists and the communities they work with during the project. The African diaspora influences Colombia’s music, with instruments and rhythms in common.
From this starting point, we invited the internationally respected Angolan composer and artist Victor Gama to participate in the exchange. Gama is well known for his workshops with youngsters in conflict zones, for creating his own musical instruments and his compositions for symphony and philharmonic orchestras. Collaborating with Gama is the musician and percussionist Pedro Ojeda, who has considerable knowledge of Colombian musical roots and has developed his own unique musical style.
