A young boy reads snippets from the journal of “Ben Uchida”, a character from the book by Barry Denenberg, who was interned during the Japanese-American internment in the 1940s. In the background are propaganda posters that were created and distributed by the United States army before and during the internment. (Thanks to Writer Barry Denenberg for the amazing text from “The Journal of Ben Uchida: Citizen 13559 Mirror Lake Internment Camp”, Drs. Aleeta and Mannie Somers Dehaney, Aleeta contributed to the conceptual development of the piece and Mannie was a behind the scenes supporter, Melanie Crean and Jordan Parnass and the brilliant Micah who read the text. This piece was inspired by the true story relayed by Janice Arakaki whose mother and aunt were both interned.)
