Karina Bustos moved from South America to the United States with her mom for a better life. This is an often-voiced motivation by the Latinos who make up some 36 percent of residents around El Mirage, Arizona. After five years here, the 23-year-old is working three jobs so that one day she can continue her education, leave El Mirage, and be reunited with her husband. She uses technology to communicate with him, though it’s tough. He’s isolated, too – serving on a boat in the Colombian navy.
