Dr. Carol S. North, Professor of Psychiatry and Surgery in the Division of Emergency Medicine, has helped to establish and define the unique niche of disaster medicine in psychiatry. Dr. North has studied more than 3,000 survivors of major disasters, including the bombings of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City and the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya; Hurricane Katrina; the Capitol Hill anthrax attacks; and the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, on the World Trade Center in New York. She presented her President's Lecture on February 9, 2012.
