A one-hour independent video documentary, WHAT IF, WHY NOT: Underground Adventures with Ant Farm will be the first film to delve into the work and times of Ant Farm. Incorporating early 70s archival videos and photographs shot by the Ant Farmer’s themselves, the film will also include new mini-DV footage shot over the past five years that includes interviews with the remaining Ant Farmers, collaborators, patrons and scholars, as well as observational footage of recent Ant Farm adventures. Complementing the more traditional documentary content will be computer animation based on Ant Farmer Curtis Schreier’s evocative and visually dynamic sketches of Ant Farm projects. The film will navigate between such major works as the inflatables, Cadillac Ranch, the 1974 Time Capsule, The House of the Century, Media Burn and The Eternal Frame, highlighting the Ant Farmers’ gleeful search for ever-new means of creative self-expression and their distinctive ability to conjure up utopia from the delights and dross of American popular culture.
