Well I hope the Magic Lantern will offer a 7D in camera timelapse module in the future. That would come in handy.

Wow that was very creative , Great piece of work ! Do you own this camera too ? I want to get another camera to go with my 5d mk2 , but I,m leaning toward the gh1 , because of its auto focus . What do you think ?
  • Mike Kobal plus 2 months ago
just got it now i have to sell something lol, the gh1 is great, not so much for the af but for the size, it is tiny, can't really compare the two. as for image quality, the 7d is better, can tell already after the first few video clips, is it a lot better? nope. higher bitrate (7d) def more gradable.

  • Jim Helton plus 2 months ago
Thanks Mike! Looks good - how do you like the 7D?
  • Mike Kobal plus 2 months ago
so far so good. only had it a couple of hours, def the best video dslr, now i have to go out and shoot something lol
  •
  • craig 2 months ago
Hey Mike when you say more gradable , are you referring to the color flexible and how you can color correct the clips?
  • Mike Kobal plus 2 months ago
    yes
  •

Very nice work! You think 7D beats 5DmkII in terms of quality? (noise, low light, etc.) Maybe a too early question for you, but I'm guessing ppl are interested in hearing the answer :)
  • Mike Kobal plus 2 months ago
thanks Jani. Not in terms of noise and low light, it is about one stop behind the 5D2. But having the option to choose different frame rates and sizes is great.

good one ! i was just a bit surprised by the picture ratio but as it's a time lapse video i assume you kept the photo ratio.
  • Mike Kobal plus 2 months ago
thanks nikolas, yeah, I totally forgot to change it to 16:9 from 2:3

Fun! Lots of vignette - using some ND filters and such?
  • Mike Kobal plus 2 months ago
:O) actually, created an action for the vignette in photoshop and converted to b/w before importing to fcp
  • rickflick 2 months ago
I didnt know you could do that. Create an action and apply it in Raw? How is that done?
  • Mike Kobal plus 2 months ago
shot it jpeg, raw would be too much data, in photoshop you can create actions (record what you are changing on one image) then apply to all of them cpu intensive
  • rickflick 2 months ago
I see. So the 7D is producing individual frames, which are processed by photoshop as a stack or list. I got it.
  • rickflick 2 months ago
Plenty of time for a cup of coffee, huh?
  • Mike Kobal plus 2 months ago
    yup

Really great stuff Mike ! Black and white always reminds me of my youth. That little park wouldn't happen to be in the Bowery, would it? Seems strangely familar?

I wouldn't have thought of using time lapse to showcase the street performance of a brass band. Not until now. Very creative.
