So the key to dealing with law enforcement is to ask them if you should do what they want you to do, but they will be too stubborn to actually ask you.

"Are you asking me to return this money I stole from the bank? If you're asking me, I'll do it."

that takes guts, man, i never would have been able to do that. i seriously would have peed my pants from fright.

i had the same issue at a local megamall/shopping complex. It was the end of high school and I had a large Sony video camera, filming friends etc. Two security guards came rushing up to me and insisted that I turned it off right away. I put it down but didn't turn it off and asked - why must I turn it off? They said it was due to anti-terroism policy introduced by centre management. I turned the camera off.
