Some more footage from Basler Fasnacht. I shot this in 2002, but It is going on now, so I like to dig out the footage and get all nostalgic for beer and wurst and walking around till the wee hours behind drums and fifes.

    me too... I mean other than just experiencing it. But that's nice too as there is no organized parade, you just sort latch onto a group and walk behind them till you find someone new to follow.

    Great footage - I love these traditions.
    The fifes and drums reminded me of Siena's contradaioli, though the spirit seems different.

    This happens right after mardigras so that Protestant Basel could feast while the Catholics fast.
