Previous Week
The stuff is terrible, you can probably tell from some of the green screen shots when you see REALLY wrinkled fabric in the background, but you'd be surprised what you can get away with in After Effects (more specifically with the key light plugin).
Anyway long story short, don't wait too long to get that fabric, in the end its gonna be the lighting which makes or breaks it for your keying.

All these shots were done in After Effects and the plugin I used for keying was called Keylight (comes with After Effects).
It's an incredibly powerful plugin as you can see!
Your setup actually sounds exactly like mine, I use those 800w red head lights too (things are fricken fire hazard).
One thing that really helped me was these sheets of white plastic (diffuser material) I bought from a film supply store. They're really cheap, fire resistant (trust me you'll need that) and I just clip them directly onto the light itself to diffuse the hard shadows you get from those red heads.
