I really like you've used an urban landscape. Beautifully detailed, deeply strange. As per...:)
  • Tobias Stretch 2 months ago
Yeah, I've been meaning to do urban now that I live in it. Streetlights are crazy to work with.
    Thanks a bunch Caroline!

wow, like how you've moved up to human character design scale, nice work!
  • Tobias Stretch 2 months ago
Yeah, those humans took a real beating having to hold still for extended periods in those brutally cumbersome costumes. Many thanks to Ali and Caleb, they rule!
    Rock on,
    Toby

I love the stop motion photography, but I don't understand what those things are. Are they aliens? Are they robots?
  • Tobias Stretch 2 months ago
They could be both, I'm not sure yet. Over 3,000 pictures of wearing real heavy spine bending costumes I can tell that much!
    Thanks,
    Toby
  • Marina Valentina 2 months ago
to Ranju, your comment makes me wonder- how would the feeling or meaning of the video be different if they were aliens or robots or anything else? would it change anything for you? would it say something different or make a stronger impact depending on what they are?

  • Insane! The lighting is so haunting. <3

Hey Karen, good to hear from you again! Insane is what I become at 3 am, when trying to keep my camera dry from the rain and having my batteries run out in the middle of a shot, lol! T

Visually, its a great piece of art. I really liked the lights and the character design, they are quite intriguing.

But, on a constructive note, there isn't much going on... they only wander around until they meet, then the flower lady kills the disco-astronaut cyborg then swallows him. I understand that with these amazing costumes you are kind of limited with the movement/actions they can do, I would have liked it if there was a bit more actions, if they (the characters) had more depth. Maybe some kind of personal dilemma/conflict would have helped.

Overall, its a pretty good video. How long did it take to shoot all the photos?
  • Tobias Stretch 2 months ago
Hey Greasy, thank for that, I can see where you are coming from with the wandering aspect. I had scripted it so they would be lost creatures searching for something but maybe I could have shown more of the characters personality. I wanted them to remain relatively mysterious as well so perhaps this is what conveyed the lack of depth you saw. The costumes took 2 weeks and the shooting was another 4. Thanks for the input! T

i think that by not having a complicated plot line the video emphasizes the atmosphere and allows people to look at the world around- it's beauty and it's mystery, through the light that is captured. it is more like a painting or a photograph in that way, telling a complex story through texture, light and style (and in this case a great song) rather than a character driven action packed plotline. it seems pretty clear that this is a music video afterall, not a short film. and music videos are fun to watch again and again because they give us many different things to look at within each frame; so the video offers something new each time, rather than delivering the same solid story over and over. To me, it is more important that a music video offer a solid world/atmosphere/vibe then a solid spoon-fed story/plotline that would be easy to understand and move on from after seeing once. besides, there are many shots that show interpersonal delema/conflict, they just don't explain what that conflict is. i like it. i like it the surreal way it is.

Amazing work as usual my friend! I would love to work on a project of any sort with you, fantastic!

I am still waiting on the full length feature... ;-D

But seriously, I love the way you painted the light in the dark streets of the city, especially at the end where the movement of the character in the lighted dress moves to the beat of the music crescendo. Was this an official music video for the band or was this just another fun filled project to showcase your great talent?

    Quality work!

Ya this is the official video from them, they are really cool guys from Croatia!
