James Capper’s extraordinary sculptures can walk, swim and climb mountains. The exhibition at YSP (5 Jan – 14 Apr 2013), showcased Capper’s on-going interest in industrial machines and the aesthetics of mechanical power, and included his Earth Marking, Offshore and Material Handling series, which both reference the monumental scale of 1970s Land Art as well as the innovation of early engineering, such as Robert Gilmour Le Tourneau’s World War II ‘earthmoving machinery’.

In this film, the artist discusses his work and YSP project with YSP Curator Helen Pheby, Keith Hartley (National Galleries of Scotland), art collector Anthony d'Offay and Holly Willats (Editor, Art Licks).
