Crystalline Chlorophyll is an interactive digital sculpture. Its surface starts as an icy-crystalline shimmering and is slowly overcome by a verdant-green growth of texture during the course of the exhibition based on the movement of the visitors observing it. By tracking movement in the room it randomly adds a bit of green to the surface using generative pseudo-organic image algorithms.

    surreal!! great work bravo!

if you don't mind can you please attempt to explain to me what generative pseudo-organic image algorithms are? mostly how are they pseudo-organic?

    Thank you sir!

generative as the images are created on the fly, and don't repeat; pseudo-organic means that really I'm just using a simple blur function in combination with live camera data and some really basic rules that determine which pixels are born, and which die. It's not at the level of complexity that a "real" organic system would be at but it looks like it is, therefore "pseudo". Make sense?

nice! very organic! i wish we could build this paper? shape taller ...

All of the files for building this out of paper (the small version anyways) are here, it can be scaled up, but the bigger it is the more problem there is with depth-of-field of the projector lens:

gracias Joseph! but i think paper is too weak to be scaled it was only a dream...for now :) but maybe with some kind of stands inside? i will think about it. i love paper to project on!
and of course i like your idea about 'crystalline chlorophyll'

yeah, for a larger permanent object paper might not work. The final version of this one was about 2 meters long, but of course building size would be nice... I've been thinking plexiglass would be good, or just particle board for larger permanent objects.
