I am starting a new project called '1 minute' where you study a subject by filming it for exactly one minute. The group 'The Pictures Don't Move' was a big inspiration for this project, but I would like the criteria to be more defined, so I'm creating a few rules here.

Rules:

-Video must be exactly one minute long
-The camera and frame must be static (no panning, tilting, etc)
-No editing
-Tag with '1 minute'
-Add it to the Group - vimeo.com/groups/1minute

    sounds like a cool little project/group Blake, but can I have some clarity on your rules please?

    * video must be 60 seconds long - no problem :)
    * camera and frame must be static - you're on a boat and the camera is moving ;-)
    * no editing - no problem :)
    * tag with '1 minute' - no problem :)
    * add to the group - no problem :)

    one other question, does this have to be video or can it be an unedited/ported photo montage / photomotion / time lapse piece?

    Just curious, that's all - thanks in advance :)

    the camera is not being moved, it is moving ;) But I think you get it. And no, no effects, just pure straight video.

    hmmnn, so moving still images in perfect steady frame and no pans and zooms strung together in say a 24 frames per second video does not count as a video?

    You should have told that to the early pioneers of video back in the days of celluloid - that's pretty much what they did back then ;)

    I'm not talking about special effects, just would like to clarify what is meant by video - by the very definition of the term (sorry, but it's my job to find out the finer details ;-)

    neti neti

    "Neti-neti is held as the approach to understand the concept of Brahman without using affirmative (and thereby inadequate) definitions or descriptions of Brahman, comparable to apophatic theology in Eastern Christianity.

    The purpose of the exercise is to negate conscious rationalizations, and other distractions from the purpose of a meditation. It is also a sage view on the nature of the Divine, and especially on the attempts to capture and describe the essence of God. In this respect, the phrase succinctly expresses the standpoint of negative theology."

    so does that mean there will be concessions now and then?

    I'm only joking - yes I will give your group a try ;)

    Nice reply Blake!

    just to check but does "no editing" apply just to the image itself or does it rule out a short beginning and end credit sequence as well?

    I ask because I had a similar idea myself and recorded this 1 minute clip vimeo.com/6820509 as a third wave project.

    I think no editing is the most interesting. so no titles or credits...

    So I guess we have a new Vimeo classic here ! It's an hard one but I could imagine a wall of a dozen with like a hundred of them showed, each one starting with a 5 seconds delay, and playing at a random place in the dozen spaces.

    its going to be fun to remix for sure!
