Just got the 7D body last week, so I decided to take it out and play with it for a little this past Sunday. Really impressed with it so far. The only real gripe I have is a minor one I guess, no articulating LCD screen. This is probably due to the fact that I got so used to the GH1. Other than that, the camera is top-notch.

Lenses used in addition to the glidetrack:

Canon EF 50mm 1.8
Canon 16-35mm L 2.8

Shot in 24 & 60, then slightly graded using FCP CC.
Wish I could've shot more, but I was in a rush to beat the sun. Comments and critiques very welcome...Enjoy the quick edit.

Thanks Makinov! Even though I haven't had a lot of time with it, I'm loving it so far. When are you going to snag one??

Totally agree with Beirut. They're awesome...

Ah my workload needs to pick up some before I can get one! Might have to ask Santa instead!
  • dynomike plus 3 months ago
Haha...I wish I could've gotten it from Santa as well, but I doubt I'd been able to wait for it.

Very nice! Makes me want to go and delete my first 7D test with the Canon 50mm 1.8 :)
  • dynomike plus 3 months ago
Thanks so much for the comment and "like" Rodney. Yeah I totally wanted to shoot more but I had about maybe a half an hour to plan out all my shots since this was all on a whim.

Anyhow, I appreciate the comments very much...I'll be sure to add you as a contact.

Thanks Mike! I'm headed to New Orleans tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be able to get some better footage than my "dusty plant" :) I'll keep an eye out for your videos.

The subtle Glidetrack moves makes the video so much more interesting. Which Glidetrack is this? Wow at the image @ 00:36. Nicely done!

Can't wait to get my hands on a 7D. Never will I pre-order from Amazon again.
  • dynomike plus 3 months ago
Thanks Ly! Indeed does movement play a part with making things a little more interesting.

    Used a 1m Glidetrack.

Bummer with Amazon. I had a preorder with them as well and canceled because of having to wait. I got lucky to say the least.
  • Ly Nguyen 3 months ago
Gotta get myself one of those Glidetracks.

Heard today via Mr. Bloom that Canon is working on a firmware update for the 7D due mid-October. Maybe that's why Amazon is holding back on shipping. I unno.

Appreciate you taking the time to answer everyone's questions. =)
  • dynomike plus 3 months ago
Yeah love the Glidetrack. It wasn't a pain carrying around when I shot this.

As for the update, I saw him tweet that as well. =) Not sure if that's the reason why Amazon is holding back though. Bummer that you haven't gotten yours yet.

If there is an update, I have no clue what it would be for. Who knows. Maybe it'll disable AGC??? Haha...It's a long shot, I know.

Cha-ching! "Liked!" Really great quality at 00:36. So crystal! Glidetrack looks lovely.
  • dynomike plus 3 months ago
Thanks a lot for the "like" Omar! I agree with the shot at 36 secs. Really impressed with what the 7D was able to pick up.

Glidetrack gave me subtle, but awesome movement.

Is the glidetrack the SD, HD or XD?
  • dynomike plus 3 months ago
Omar, used the SD glidetrack. For the most part, the SD is capable of having the 5D or 7D mounted.

dynomike, great work, very well done!!

Did you use the Glidetrack compact or standard?

    Thanks,
    Johnnie
  • dynomike plus 3 months ago
Hey Johnnie, appreciate the comment very much.

I used the Glidestrack standard, which is about 1 meter.

Also, I saw your "Vienna is not Beijing" short and thought it was awesome. =) Good stuff as well Johnnie. How are the Samyang Europe lenses?

FYI, I've added you as a contact on here as well!
  • Johnnie Behiri plus 3 months ago
    Dear dynomike.
    Thanks for the valuable info!

I am sure you like me is exited to take part in the "revolution" :)

You can not beat the quality for price of the Samyang lenses. The up coming 14mm will serve us very well.

    Thanks again!

    Johnnie

Absolutely gorgeous! I'm subscribing to your videos, hope to get another 7D footage soon :)

This is very tempting, but don't have enough solid arguments to buy it, haha, maybe next year.

Are you a professional, or just a hobbyist ? You've got the eyes.
  • dynomike plus 3 months ago
Thanks for the comment ZhiC. I'll be sure to add you as a contact as well.

In regards to your question, I'm a hobbyist fortunate enough to make money at it. Very lucky to say the least.

Thanks for the "like" and comments.

    You're lucky indeed.
I'm a hobbyist and passionate photographer looking to make profit out of my creations, but demands are very rare around here.
    Best hopes for your work!

You've totally convinced me that I need a Glidetrack lol ^_^

As others have pointed out the shot at 0:36 looks/feels astonishing, it's perfect!

Gah! I can't wait for my 7D to arrive, it'll be my first camera, I'm really looking forward to learning all the in's and out's of photography and shooting short films.

WOW, really nice! The tracking is sutle but has a great effect how much is a Glide Track? Are they anoying to take around or are they fairly light, you think they could be used on a HDV Camera?

    Good Work!
  • dynomike plus 3 months ago
    Jim, thanks for the comment.

If you need info on the glidetrack, check out glidetrack.com. As for weight, they are fairly light and easy to lug around.

They have a Glidetrack HD which would suit your needs more for an HD Camera!

Ah I keep watching these 7D videos and thinking wow this is awesome. Problem is I want the 5D for its full frame ness, how to wide shots perform on the 7D?
  • dynomike plus 3 months ago
    Hi Film Student,

The lens I used was the Canon 16-35mm 2.8L and honestly, the crop wasn't bad at all on it. For me, it was wide enough. You have a limited selection, but if you can make do with one that's available, you're good to go. For me, the 16-35mm and 50mm are must haves for this cam.
  • John Novotny 2 months ago
I've been using a Sigma EX 10mm - 20mm wide angle zoom, so far looks terrific but not all that fast, f4 - 5.6.

Love the 50mm f1.8 also add the 35mm f2.0 (or f1.8 if you can afford it.

  • dynomike plus 3 months ago
Sean, originally preordered with Amazon but realized they wouldn't be shipping right away.

Canceled and went with Service Photo in Maryland. Great group of guys down there. Top-notch customer service.

Mike, I've been heavily considering the 16-35 for my 7d...thoughts?
  • dynomike plus 2 months ago
It's a really sharp lens Zack. You can't go wrong with it. It should cover all your wide angle needs. I rented it and fell in love with it. My suggestion though is to try it out as a rental first and see if it suits your needs.

I would still invest in at least either a 50mm or something a little longer though.

really nice...i'm seeing alot of frame rate weirdness on many of these 7d test vids, is this a vimeo thing or is it the shutter speeds, what shutter did you use, if you dont mind me asking?
  • dynomike plus 2 months ago
Paul, Thanks. Shutter was set to 60.

Also, what frame rate weirdness have you noticed?
