This is the forth and final excerpt from my looped acoustic guitar session. All improvised on my 2005 Taylor Koa Acoustic Guitar, this particular work is the most rhythmic in nature. It's opening strummed percussive pattern evokes many images. I went with Marilyn's idea of a heartbeat. Her idea of a "feeling of restlessness" certainly resonated with me in many ways.
Coming off the most difficult year of my life, I certainly had, and still do, many moments of restlessness and uncertainty. Make no mistake, that feeling never dims my passion for what I do. It's more of a general feeling of non-commitment in terms od relationships with others. When those who were once around you are no longer there, a feeling of loss and despair move into areas of your soul that tend to paralyze you and your trust and faith in others.
On the other hand, a restless heart can also come from hope, hope that the future will find you were you were meant to be. Then, looking back you begin to understand that the pain, loss, anger, and mistrust, are no longer consuming you but are now seen as a passage through the hard times that we come to expect as we go though life.
To write such dark words when many areas of my life are going so well is not easy. Life as we know is a constant series of ups and downs with nothing guaranteed. The only way to overcome is to take life by its reigns, hold on, and fight back with all your strength knowing that rewards come to those who persevere and overcome.
