Hurricane Evacuation: 0:23
The City updated their hurricane evacuation zones and posted a corresponding map online last week. There are now 6 zones instead of 3. Using census data, the city determined that there are nearly 3 million residents in the area, which is 600,000 more than originally estimated. Watch to learn more about the new zones.
Legislative Hurricane Recovery: 1:31
The 2013 Sandy Recovery Package was passed last week. 23 Legislative bills were passed to help several counties in New York State recover from Hurricane Sandy, including those not in the NYC metro area. Visit our blog TrendingSINY.com to read a summary of the bills.
Stapleton Waterfront: 2:29
Though it has taken longer than expected, the US Navy Home Port area in Stapleton is finally being revitalized. 900 housing units will be constructed along with 30,000 feet of commercial space. Phase 1 should be completed within 2 years.
Free Summer Meals: 3:10
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has orchestrated a program to provide free meals to students under eighteen during the summer months. Various combinations of breakfast and lunch will be served in many different neighborhoods of Staten Island at various schools and pool areas in the community.
Solar Powered Charging Stations: 4:21
Teaming up with AT&T, 25 New York City Parks will have solar-powered cell phone charging stations. This is a pilot program and two of them will be in Staten Island at the LaTourette Golf Course and the Staten Island Zoo.
New Housing Construction: 5:03
Watch to learn where and what types of homes will be constructed on the West Shore, East Shore, Mid-Island section, and South Shore.
