6. Brothers Bloom Childhood Sequence Animatic

This is a very crude animatic of the opening childhood sequence from The Brothers Bloom (COUGH now available for rental on DVD and BluRay COUGH) that I created early in the pre-production process. As will be immediately and humiliatingly evident, I did all the voices myself. The artwork consists of storyboards by the very talented Daniele Auber, and it was all put together on my laptop in Final Cut Pro.

Minimal resources, very slapdash, but it ended up being an invaluable tool in showing both business and creative folks we were courting how the whole thing would come together.

This is awesome. Great opening scene, and cool to see it in the preproduction phase.

What a gorgeous animatic... Loving the voices Rian... BTW it's Kahl from Savalas in Scotland... We shot a little ADR for Bloom with Robbie.... Pleasure to be a tiny part of the project. Hope you're well.

That's so funny because I rented The Brothers Bloom (iTunes) yesterday and I've just had time to watch 2 minutes of the opening sequences ... You did really well.

    Good job.

For myself, i'm going to enjoy the rest of the movie now.

The way this film was released sounds catastrophic; in fact, I remember seeing trailers for it but never finding a cinema where it was playing. Any reason?

    Great animatic, Rian.

I'm curious - did you guys do this just for the cold open or for the rest of the film as well?

And did you show this piece to Ricky Jay, Max Records et al so that they had an idea of the rhythm and timing?

I'm impressed at how closely this resembles the final version.

    Bravo!
