First, Props to Remyyy (The shoebox MASTER). Just a short vid on how I made my shoebox. I chose to paint the inside of mine with a flat black paint. I used a square magnifying glass instead of a round one. I also used a matte or flat finish piece of plastic instead of the paper. My shoebox video will be coming soon, hopefully. And about the quality (fine for me), have you checked Eugenia topic in the forum : vimeo.com/forums/topic:3671 .

No, I haven't. Thanks for the headz up! I think Charlie told me about her as well. I WILL CHECK THAT OUT!

Export as shown at the tutorial Remyyy linked, but use 876x480 for resolution, and 3 mbps bitrate instead of the suggested there 720p and 5 mbps. This ought to do the best in terms of filesize/quality for your case, as you have a DV camera.

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Smart, and painting it in black is a good idea. Never thought about it. Waiting for the first experiments with impatience. It's working really well. The quality is much better than mine. Thanks for the tips.

Yeah, I painted it black and could see where additional light was coming in, so I sealed those spots as well. And the plastic works like a charm, very durable as well. Thanks for the idea & inspiration!

wow, the quality you got on that last clip is so amazing!
  • Jay Boy's Random Cutz 7 months ago
Thankz Boris! I'm going to play with the shoebox for a bit. Between the shoebox and my DVC30 it can get kinda' heavy. I think I'm going to try to make something that will mount to the camera. Much smaller with a plastic housing that will screw on my camera (43mm).
  • BorisG 7 months ago
oh, yeah, i've been trying to make some kind of mounting, i made a hole perfectly for the size of my vx2100 square lens hood, so i just need to insert my camera and lock it. and i also made a moving mechanism for a tracing paper - you don't need to open the box to adjust the position of it =)
  • Jay Boy's Random Cutz 7 months ago
NICE! Being able to adjust the screen without opening the box would rock. That's a pain!

Nice. What's the plastic normally used for - just so that I know what to ask for at the store. Mind you, I have to translate it, so a usage is probably easier to explain than some translation of a technical word :)
  • Jay Boy's Random Cutz 7 months ago
The plastic is used for making sewing & quilting templates. I took a piece of the paper with me to make sure it was the same as the plastic. Check out The Shoebox World channel: vimeo.com/theshoeboxworld

    Awesome image quality!
I made one too with a square "Brookstone" magnifier
the tracing paper is my weak point I a stiff translucent Vellum would well too. That plastic is cool.

    goodon the black- inside too.

Thank you very much! So when do we get to see your shoebox vid? Yeah, the paper can move around when you move the box, as well as wrinkle up. The black paint seemed to help also. Let's see that vid!!!

The plastic matte really creates a smooth effect... almost looks like a Lens Baby - I like it! Nice job.
  • Jay Boy's Random Cutz 7 months ago
Thankya'! Thankya'! I wanna' experiment with it a little more. Smaller box and different plastics. It's tinker time!
