This is a really bad video I shot with my first ever video camera (8mm) in Turkey in 1987 (as I recall). It is of my ex-wife, Suzanne, giving a tour of my favorite ancient temple ruin, Claros. The history if Claros is pretty vague. Experts cite it predates the 10th Century BC. It was visited by Alexander the Great. Oracles used to drink sulfur water from a natural spring under the temple and have visions and tell prophecies. The temple was lost many centuries ago and buried up until the early 1900's. We used to visit this site often and it wasn't unusual for us to be the only people there. Nice place for a picnic and close to our favorite scuba diving site. The ruin was way off the beaten path and the tourists knew nothing about it. At the site, which was still mostly buried, were the remnants of three larger than life statues carved out of stone. One was of Apollo and the other two were goddesses that stood by his side. At the time we used to visit, the head of Apollo (which was as big as a mini cooper car) was in the museum of Izmir. In the video are Apollo's bent left knee and a sandaled foot that is bigger then my kids where back then, they used to love climbing all over it. The French did another excavation many years after we left and I am very curious what they found. Would love to see a 3D model or drawing of the temple as it stood. Doubt I will ever see this place again, but hope I do before I get too old. Would love to photograph all the sites I know of there now that I know how to use a camera ;-)
