Texas Senate Bill 5 is a list of measures that would add and update abortion regulations in Texas. These measures include banning abortions after twenty weeks of gestation, mandate that a doctor who performs abortions have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital, and to require that clinics meet the same standards as other health-care facilities in the state. On June 25, 2013 Senator Wendy Davis performed an 11-hour filibuster in attempt to block the bill which was successful.
The following day, Governor Rick Perry added the bill as part of three bills in a second special session. Perry stated that it was due to the "[...] breakdown of decorum and decency to prevent us from doing what the people of this state hired us to do." To which the citizens of Austin, Texas responded in protest that began the same morning.
