Executed with the peculiar technical rigor that is Whiting’s signature, belly rings with visceral, totemic imagery and covert cultural commentary. In an environment of fur, felt and marigolds created in collaboration with visual artists Danii Blackwell and Jean Hicks, Whiting and Dickinson enact their own intersecting myths, displaying the feral sides of their human nature in a powerfully constructed, unabashed duet that is both sexy and childlike, poppy and primeval. "belly" first premiered at On the Boards Northwest New works in June 2013.
