The Ballad of the M4 Carbine

I created this film because I have an interest in the war in the middle east and our involvement with it. I wanted the film to be politically evocative as well as enjoyable to watch. The entire film took approximately 4 months to make and was created and rendered in Blender 2.49a.

I'm a big Band of Horses fan, so I loved the music.
And good to meet another Band of Horses fan. I would DIE to see them live ;)
Really.
I like the camera style,
At the shooting part.
Zooming in, and out.
Really cool.
Oh, and I like the music too!
I know the band.
It really suits with the video.
This is great.
It was a pleasure to watch it!
Real eyecandy!
Cya!

not sure what your political views are, but perhaps thats not the point.
good job!
Added it to Blender3d[Animation/Videos] Channel
Unfortunately, I don't like it so much.
I don't really see the idea behind the movie, but this is personal.
I like very much the timing that follows the music. Your camera moves and lighting are very nice too.
But concerning the rendering, it seams that the images want to look real, but they don't (to me). Maybe because materials and geometries are too perfect.
I will show this video to my Students
however, you write that you "have an interest in the war in the middle east". the content doesn't make a point on the issue. it doesn't explain anything about the war in the middle east (btw: which one do you refer to?).
furthermore, you write that you want the video to be "politically evocative". well, what is it meant to evoke from a political perspective?
my conclusion: you seem to be gloryfying the weapon or the whole war..... maybe i just don't understand it.
The rest was very well done.
Great work!
Great everything! congratulations.
I'd like to get the idea behind the 3 different colours of the firebursts, maybe that can shed a little more light on the true meaning of the story. It's easy to be misunderstood bearing an english language name and flag - actually I think Brian's interpretation gets pretty close. At least I hope so :) But it's good you issued some controversy here!
Good particles and very nice modelling!
More often bad reasons for sure.
@Benjamin Bailey - The moon was probably created with a hi-res picture from the NASA. Not a big secret I think :)
Yes it was Vector Blur. The DoF doubling effect is a known issue in Blender. I tried to reduce the artifacts as best as possible, but some got through :)
Respect...
i like the colors and the moon
A very smoothly designed animation with a great meaning and a lovely execution.
I look up to you regarding Blender animations. I follow your site and see it is a great source of information. I hope business keeps up for you, as you are clearly a creator and a giver.
Respect to you!
Respect!!!
As for the STATEMENT it is attempting, I'm also
unsure, as many are. I did a SEARCH for: Band of Horses and located the lyrics to THE FUNERAL. The words make NO bit of sense (maybe to the writer). As an American I say this, the WAR on Terror still goes
on and will be fought no matter what your opinions. I should also say that as an American, I do not appreciate
American cities being depicted as being blown up or ravaged by earthquakes. I believe this is rather crud on your part. One last thing, young man . . . No one
likes war, least the people who have to fight them.
Have you not watched any films where cities are depicted as undergoing, or having underwent, great tragedies? The Towering Inferno? Twister? Independence Day? 2012? Maybe you don't dig Hollywood's explosive festivities, I could understand that... I mostly don't as well. But the depiction of fictitious, or "prophetic", tragedy dates back further than the bible. Are all of these individuals, and collaboratives, "crud" simply for having depicted something unpleasant?
One last thing, old man . . . No one
likes war, least the people who have to fight them, but they will continue until those that keep justifying their necessity actually comprehend their own cyclonic, regressive lunacy.
Much respect.
BRAVO...
