Recalling the lush and evocative style of traditional Oriental ink painting, LUAN CHYI is a landscape-generative installation. The name is derived from two Chinese words meaning endless mountains and peaceful water pool. Twelve two-way-mirrored towers, appearing transparent on the outside, lie on the screens of two digital LCD monitors. Infinite reflections of digital-landscape motions glide across the field of towers. The shape and color of the marbled terrain are in flux. The sculpture gives dimension to the ethereal poetry of mountains and water, beckoning viewers to meander through the winding reverie of Chinese landscape painting. LUAN CHYI transforms often cold and mechanical new media art into numinous essence of nature and dream.
