Gabriella Buccioli in oltre ventanni di lavoro ha creato i Giardini del Casoncello, un grandioso esempio di giardino dove l'impronta della natura e l'impronta umana convivono in armonia.
CASONCELLO, a natural garden.
It has taken about twenty years to Gabriella Buccioli to create an interesting natural garden on the hills surrounding Bologna, where the nature and the human presence live together harmoniously. Her creation took place slowly when vegetal species usually considered as weeds such as wild roses and elders came to Casoncello and found the same dignity as other much more valuable varieties. That was how species purchased in nursery gardens got along with the varieties brought by the wings of the winds. Exotic plants live harmoniously with the most humble natives: red common poppies near the oriental sophisticated Papaver somniferum; Digitalis purpureas grow at the edges of the wood near oaks; volunteer orchids (Orchis) near the Aquilegia and the Lunaria. "Plants come here because I provide them with a cozy place. I do a lot of manual weeding; I create the conditions in which certain Mediterranean varieties can find their favorite microclimate and where vegetables can grow healthy without damaging one another. I wanted to create a natural garden with all the earthy elements: from rock to water, from meadow to underwood, from musks to trees to leaves that fall down and turn into valuable manure. It is the constant interchange which creates a good natural balance and, therefore, a happy garden."
