Suicides are expected to reach an all-time high of 40,000 in the United States this year. Yet research indicates that nearly half of suicide victims had contact with a healthcare provider within 30 days prior to their suicide.
As healthcare reform grants access to healthcare to millions more, there will be greater demands for efficiency, efficacy and cost control. Panelists will examine the challenges healthcare providers face, as well as the opportunities they have, to more effectively identify patients at-risk for suicide, prevent suicide and better serve their patients and their community.

Mariel is a celebrity advocate for suicide prevention. She is an academy award nominated actress and the granddaughter of novelist Ernest Hemingway and sister of model Margaux Hemingway – both of whom committed suicide.
Dr. Jay Zdunek
Dr. Zdunek is a primary care physician from Heritage Valley Health System in suburban Pittsburgh. He is on the front lines of patient care daily and is the director and medical advisor of case management at Heritage Valley.
Dr. Kelly Posner
Many of you may be familiar with Dr. Posner. She is the lead author of the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale, the primary assessment AVERT deploys. Dr. Posner is an international expert in suicide and depression.

Dr. Litwin, our President and CEO served on the panel to bring together all of the messages of our panelists and focused on how AVERT is a tool that can facilitate better assessment of suicide risk.
