This is an example of a new type of fractal concept using one of a great variety of settings that it's capable of producing.

I decided to whip up a short music piece (using Garage Band) for the purpose of testing out how it reacted to being "powered" by some music.

That's definitely why I tagged it "Leopard". :) Totally able to be done in 10.5. In fact, it's better done in 10.5 !

I like the look. I bet it would go good with a radiohead song.

Great visuals, how have you created it? What kind of stuff do I need to get started doing something like that? I heard that it is possible to you a Wacom tablet for music making/inputing etc but I have failed! All the best Christian

Christian, this uses "Quartz Composer" technology... a free application that comes with Apple computers, that is kind of like a big synthesizer of all media. It is in the Apple "Developer" Tools, and you can make applications with it, or use code for certain functions if you want.

It's really intuitive and pretty easy for anyone who has fiddled with music equipment. It's been gratifying to find something that is kind of like an "instrument" to make visuals to go with music, or other ideas. It is a really vast technology. Programming for the masses?

I used it for the purpose of creating an animation engine that is partially driven by audio signal (with some manual animations as well), and then used Quartz Crystal to turn the visual output of my program into a movie file. Kineme and v002 plugins deserve big credit on getting the visual outcome, and they were free, so... pretty awesome in my book!

The thing that gives it the liquidy look is "gpu datamosh"... as it was originally termed, I believe, by Andrew Benson of Cycling '74, enabled by the v002 Optical Flow. So, a Jitter technique is being usurped and used in another environment (sorry for getting all technical there).... which itself is a fakeout of a Horne-Schuncke algorithm.

A bunch of other stuff went into setting this up to be exactly like this. Probably best addressed somewhere else? It could get really long!

I would be happy to help give some tips on that or getting started in QC. Feel free to message me on my account.
