"When I Was Your Man" - Bruno Mars Instrumental Interpretation
Performed and produced by Mark Jeffery Campayno
Production done at StudioRock of Northern Virginia
The Story Behind the Interpretation:
I realize that my version of the Bruno Mars hit, "When I Was Your Man" is a bit unorthodox. Well, that's never stopped me before:) I hope that those of you who
are attached to the original will understand my approach.
Here's where I am coming from, and this is no insult to the music industry. I firmly
believe that what I have done is to squeeze out the real meaning in terms of its emotional content. Most of us know that for music to be accepted by the masses it must be rendered in a way that is "acceptable" to the majority. I think we all would agree to that. Therefore, my take on this song is that it is much darker than it is portrayed by the Bruno Mars version. That's nothing against Mars or the writer of the work. I like Bruno Mars a lot and his musical abilities are strong. His live performances on YouTube are, in my opinion, better than the originals.
This song is about regret obviously. Regrets from a man who did not do enough. Who took for granted what he had and in the end lost it all. If that's not a dark theme then I will surrender to a misinterpretation.
I hope you enjoy this extraction of what I feel are the most pertinent emotional moments of this pop classic.
