I got to go to my very first Red Sox game last night. Here is everybody singing Sweet Caroline. Sweet Caroline is always played during the middle of the 8th inning for some reason.

(They aren't saying Boo at the end, they are saying Yoo.)

WOAH: cmerow uploaded just about the exact same clip as this one. What makes this so crazy?!?! IT WAS THE SAME GAME. What are the chances of two Vimeors at Fenway recorded the exact same moment and then uploading the clip within hours of eachother?!?>!!! Her clip: vimeo.com/clip:71059

Haha, that's aweesome. Was it taken on Saturday night (against the Orioles)?
  • Alex Kehr 2 years ago
Haha, SWEET! It is the same game. That's amazing that we put up just about the same exact clip. The only difference is that you are by third base and I am by first base.

Isn't Neil Diamond from the Bronx? I should think he's a Yankees fan.
  • Alex Kehr 2 years ago
Yeah, he's from the Bronx. I just read that they have asked him to sing Sweet Caroline many times but he always says no since he is a Yankee fan.

I also read that nobody knows why they always play this in the middle of the 8th inning.

A few years ago, a woman (Amy Tobey) was told to choose music to play at Fenway. She heard "Sweet Caroline" being played at other sporting events and went with it. The fans liked it, and it stuck. In 2002 it started to get played in the 8th inning of every game.

Shit, that guy found the article first.

I actually started reading that article once but never finished reading it. That is the only reason why I know they play that song every middle of the 8th.

Haha, they also play "Dirty Water" after every win, in case you were wondering.

Oh, and I believe catcher Jason Varitek named his daughter Caroline. I'm not sure though.
  • Alex Kehr 2 years ago
That wouldn't be why they play the song though because they have been playing that song during the middle of the either for 30 years.
  • Ohashikto 2 years ago
What I meant is, Varitek named his daughter after the song (I believe).
  • Alex Kehr 2 years ago
Yeah, I knew what you meant.

idiots. first off, theyre saying youk!!!! not yoo! and sweet caroline is played because of that woman (amy) played it, then they came back to win the game that inning so they started playing all the time for good luck. It didnt just "stick" its for good luck, and dirty water is just a song about boston, the charles river, its about the city man, no reason for playing it.

This could be the first negative comment I've ever received during my 2 years of being a Vimeo member.

Since the person who left it has no clips, no contacts and has no reason for being on here, I'd just ignore or delete it.
