I am working on a Masters Thesis and an associated "experimental" documentary on Throbbing Gristle, positing that they were a musical actualization in practice of the Critical Theory of Frankfurt School mavens Theodor Adorno & Max Horkheimer, and the Aesthetic theories of Adorno in particular.
As an attempt at taking theory into praxis, in order to both prove my point, and to follow the central premise of Critical Theory that theory without praxis is pointless, I am structuring the documentary following Adorno's theory of Aesthetics, as I see it filtered through the works of Throbbing Gristle.
This piece was done as a sort of study and/or proof of concept, using only archival footage, trying out the methods I plan to use in the final piece. The actual documentary will include new interviews that I will shoot, and a mix of both other new material and archival footage.
