Tempe is hotter than balls. Even in late September, it’s pretty unbearable, corduroy blazer or not. Also, there’s constantly construction going on, which isn’t terrible, it just seems like the worst thing in the history of mankind when it’s 107 degrees outside.
Tempe is basically a suburb of Phoenix, about 10 minutes away from the downtown area. The area surrounding the campus is pretty much a collection of chain restaurants, book stores, movie theaters, and clothing stores. There’s not a whole lot of local-feeling places, but there’s enough to keep busy and have a good time.
ASU fans and students are generally enthusiastic and supportive of the team, just not necessarily of the direction the team is going in. I probably could’ve sold 50 of my “I Voted for Keller” shirts, but since I’m in the business of spending as little money as possible right now to make these episodes, the visit to the silk-screener will have to be put on hold.
The biggest positive about the tailgating experience at Tempe is that there’s plenty to look at, especially when a lot of clothes just doesn’t seem to be the way to go in the valley of the sun. It’s just a tough reality that I had to deal with, and that of course, is having to be surrounded by loud, good-looking girls having a good time everywhere within one’s peripheral vision. Beyond the girls, though, I didn’t come across any fans who were unnecessarily obnoxious, over the top, or who were taking things a little too seriously. Good times all around. Enjoy the episode.
