Small correction: I said "Video ROM" and really should have said "Video RAM". Sorry about that! For where I got some of this awesome stuff about the Atari 2600, please get the book "Racing the Beam" by Montfort and Bogost. Also, the editing implies that Chuck Benton wrote Stroker, but he wrote Softporn Adventure, which comes after the shot. Also, Pitfall's levels were done in 50 bytes, not 20. Montfort is going to make fun of me at how much I shift years regarding Atari. (I didn't expect to go that deeply into Atari!)

And here's a March 2008 article that cites "Custer's Revenge" as an example of a violent rape simulator, failing to mention the game is 26 years old and for the Atari 2600. canada.com/calgaryherald/news/reallife/story.html?id=c0b3a665-ea3a-4ac5-925a-5ce238502755&p=1 VERY sneaky!

Jason, you remain my favorite historian of tech culture. Great talk, great points. I'm particularly fascinated by how the teletype art reached back to other machine / communications art. The impression I get is of a long unbroken chain backwards.
