The Daimler World Employee Committee (WEC) is a representative committee of Mercedes unions from around the world. The group meets annually to discuss issues facing employees at Daimler plants globally so that they may work as a team to address them with global management.
As MBUSI is the only unorganized Mercedes plant on Earth, it is also the only plant that does not have representation on the WEC. Daimler's heavy truck plants like Freightliner and Thomas Built Buses in North Carolina are UAW-represented, and therefore the UAW has seats on this important committee.
In 2013, the WEC invited a member of the UAW Leadership Council that is actively working to organize MBUSI to attend and observe the meetings. David Gilbert, a formerly anti-union Team Member from Final 1, went to Germany for the event, and this is the global message of support that he brought back with him to MBUSI Team Members in Alabama.
