It was either him or the puppet.

    Nice work.

I may be stupid, but I guess I kind of miss the sentiment.

Is it some sort of anti-war protest? Were I in a situation like that of the second guy, I probably would have done the exact same thing, maybe minus some of the finesse with the puppet. Just enough to get the kid distracted.

Or maybe I'm missing the point entirely. Who knows, these things are often beyond me.

In any case, beyond the purpose, the videography and acting are first class, or above. Beautiful shot, well planned and well executed.

I will say the cinematography was gorgeous, but the story was lost on me. In the acting and story writing I failed to see in the first place why they were in that building, and then at the end, there seemed no point to the whole situation.

Aside from that, once again, beautiful cinematography :)

why? shouldn't everyone be free to choose the subject he or she wants to make a film about?

i hope we can leave censorship out of this wonderful site
  • Radoslav Karapetkov 4 months ago
    Yes, no censorship, please.
  • MariaNYC 10 days ago
yes- censorship kills culture... to say the least.

Huh, I don't get the point of it too be honest. What's good: Cinematography. What's bad: The story goes nowhere imo. Bad accent the actor uses. Next time please use an actor that speaks english as a mother tongue. But overall it was good.
  • Blake Whitman 5 months ago
I see it more as a vignette than a story. I can see this scene as part of a bigger whole, leaving me to fill in the rest of the story with my imagination. And for that, I think it does a great job.

I certainly don't think the actor needs to speak English as a mother tongue, especially since the soldiers appear to be UN peace keepers from the looks of it. I think it wouldn't make as much sense if the actor didn't have an accent.

Constructive criticism isn't "what's bad" its "i think you could work on this."

@bestat isn't that kind of racist? They are definitely not American military, so making them American wouldn't make more sense.

    Sigh.

I think some of you are missing the point... which is: War is Hell.

Not quite the ending I was expecting.
I loved the cinematography and soundtrack. Those were masterfully executed.
The story was painful, but gripped me none-the-less.
    Nicely done.

WOW I actually teared up at the end. I never expected the roles to reverse like they did. Very moving and very sad at the same time. Almost a reflection of how the world is that we live in today.

    Wonderful work and beautifully shot.

Amazing videography, but I feel that it would've done better without the music. While it was meant to create some sort of personal rising action, I just felt that it was not fitting in terms of the subject matter.

Still... Very good videography and a great short overall!

i thought the story was great, it shouldn't be explaining too much about the rest of the situation so you can focus on what's happening here and the relation between the actors. But to be honest I kinda guessed the outcome once he pulled out the puppet and began to play. Love the color work and cinematography!

Es triste, intenso y lamentable que existan situaciones como esa en la vida real... la guerra es horrible.

Excellent short film; including the story, cinematography, music, lighting, set and acting (accents as well). Critiquing a work of art is rarely objective. Perhaps if viewers saw the boy grab the weapon from his dying father and shoot the UN troops as they burst into the room that would satisfy the ‘missing story line’ critics. I for one appreciate not being pummeled with too much information.

this was absolutely fucking brilliant. i thought it genius. i felt that i fully comprehended the intended meaning, right down to personal parallels that the US government played with misleading the american people and military (as their puppets) about going to war with iraq. keep doing what you're doing, you've got "the gift". peace

Politics is in everything. Like it or not.
  • evanoah sea 9 days ago
yes, bill is correct. it's absurd for us to try and pretend otherwise. and what better way to affect change in the world, than to provide us with mirrors (ie. short film, poetry, music, novels, paintings, etc. etc.), to better come to grips with our unconscious. the last thing we need to do is instill any form of censorship in our art, whatever form that it takes. talk about throwing us back to the stone age.... wow, to even suggest it boggles this mind.
