Nice work Ceven! I am inspired! How did you make it into a movie? What were the steps involved? Thanks again!
  • Ceven Knowles plus 2 years ago
Thanks! The process itself was actually quite simple. I put the camera on the tripod and treated each picture as if it were a normal photo. There were adjustments to aperture, zoom, etc made in minute adjustment in between shots. The timing went on various intervals. Usually it was anything between one shot per second up to one shot per minute – this all depended upon what sort for movement in the picture was more important. A few times the time intervals were changed up in the middle of a session. Each session would last about an hour or so, just enough to get 10-20 seconds worth of footage, which was then brought into FCP and edited accordingly. I used a 24fps timeline to enhance the film feel. After the initial idea to try this, the video pretty much built itself. Let me know how it comes for you.

i really liked the music... especially the pingy sound that starts at around 1:15 and comes about at intervals after that. it sounds like a light beam sound effect

I wrote that song in one session. It was one of those moments where everything worked together without trying. The sound you are talking about was built using Operator in Ableton LIve. I've been programming with Operator for a few years now and really like the interface of it. Thanks! :-)

  • hiya loved the CMYK slipping effect. How did you do it??plugins??nice work
  • Ceven Knowles plus 1 year ago
    The effect is quite simple:
In FCP I used the Video Filter: Channel Offset. I stacked it for each of the colours red, green, blue and then keyframed the movements. :-)

  • my video card has a weird glitch in vertical mode
fullscreen looks like an 8-bit rothko

& i was impressed by how cm7 by ceven knowles
seemed to possess pattern structures & modal changes
    as complex as any fugue

so i screen grabbed a couple minutes
    time-warped the footage up
    added a micron blur
and ended up with steve reich weaving rugs
    while the chipmunks redesign abstraction

    the mashup video is here:
