36. Nikon D300S Test video
Test video with the Nikon D300S.

Shot:

- Nikon D300S
- Nikon AFS 28-70mm f/2.8
- Tripod Miller DS10
- Custom Picture Style

Editing

- transcoded to 720p ProRes LT
- Edited in Final Cut Pro 7
- Sharpening and Color Corrections in FCP

Findings

-The Moire in the first clip on the roof seems normal with all 720p footage so far
- I used a picture style with low contrast, zero sharpening and lower saturation. Getting back the contrast and sharpness is not easy. Need more experience. With my normal 1080p footage I don't have this problem as much. Finding the best picture style needs more testing.
- Still get some jerky pans. Not sure what it is:
- Head (I think the Miller DS10 is smooth)
- Recording in camera
- Replay on Mac
- Or our panning technique (likely at least part of the equation)

Question: If you use manual or lock the exposure (using AE button) with one of the semi-auto modes, does the exposure still shift in video (in particular the ISO)?

Did not try. I think Nikon is really missing full manual mode.
