There are many Alaskan travelers but only a small percentage venture north of Fairbanks. In fact, as people we met would ask about our plans they would typically respond "Why are you going up there?" Adventure was the driving force. The Dalton Highway follows the Alaskan Pipeline all the way to the rich oils fields of Prudhoe Bay near Deadhorse. The frozen tundra, pingos and musk oxen were all new experiences for us. The Arctic Ocean beach was not lined with hotels and resorts. And the mosquitoes were so bad they were biting each other. Still glad we went.
