"Listening to In Cadeo's City Lights got me thinking about the similarities between our city life and that of the insect world. I began to imagine an insect city, where these little creatures are going about their daily business and dealing with the same problems we face. I decided to tackle the song in this way and focus on a monster-ish bug guy dealing with his day to day life in a large city.
The song, for me, deals with an internal battle of wanting to get away from the city, yet still drawn to it in some subconscious way. In my opinion, the strange pull of the city on people is similar to the way light attracts insects.
For that reason, I had our main character leave the city, undergo a transformation, and be left at the end starting to feel the allure of the city lights once again. This, like the song, I leave open to interpretation." - Eric Power (Director/Animator)
