Thanks Nigel.. It is the actual audio in 60p mode. Converted to 29.97fps in Cinema Tools.

Yeah, it's great stuff... I'm not sure it "kills" the 5D though. But the 60p would be nice...

I've heard reports of artifacting at 60p. Any idea on that?

looks tight rb. no rolling shutter issues? do you have some sort of grip kit?
  • RB Umali plus 2 years ago
    Thanks Josh..
I'm using Cavision Rod Support with a RedRock Micro Handle Attached for the fisheye shots. adorama.com/RRMH.html

And for the long lens shots I am using a Bogen Magic Arm and the Zacuto Z-Finder for stabilization.

I'm wondering the same thing, are you hand holding the camera or do you have a rig? Picture quality looks good, I wouldn't say any better than the 5D, but definitely less rolling shutter. Although with a 15mm fish I've got some good follow filming done with my 5D. The 60p is the really sick feature here, if anything blows the 5D away it's that. Good stuff man I hope to see more soon.

I like the look. Hows the white balance settings compared to a HVX?
  • RB Umali plus 2 years ago
The white balance settings are so much better than the HVX. You have the option to do it manually against a white card, but my favorite option with the 7D is to use the color temperature (K setting) which lets you accurately tweak the white balance/color temp with a numerical value.

Nice vid. Just got the 7d to compliment my EX1. Have not figured out what rig options I am going with but I have a magic arm and I am waiting for the new stock of z-finders to come in. How are you using the Magic arm in relation to your body for support.

Coming up from FL to shoot the NYC marathon next weekend. I usually skate and shoot the runners but NYC is a little tough for carrying the board, the bag, two cams, mini tripod plus other stuff around the subway all day

I got the idea to use the Magic Arm for support from this thread - cinema5d.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=4606

I bought a 7d recently and notice everything is real jittery when shot outdoors (excluding the 60fps). Do you know why that is or how to fix it? Seems to be great in low light but super jittery in daylight situations. Any info is much appreciated.
  • RB Umali plus 2 years ago
Try using a slower shutter speed when shooting at 30fps. Sometimes I notice that when filming for a while the image will appear jittery while filming, but when you play the actual recorded clip the motion is silky smooth.

Is that really only as wide as the Sigma 10mm Fisheye goes? On their website, they were saying 167°, which that doesn't seem like! I was considering this lens for mainly shooting sports, what are your opinions on it?
  •
  • RB Umali plus 2 years ago
The sigma lens is wider when shooting photos. In video mode it is cropped even more so it isn't as wide as the Peleng Fisheye which vignettes a lot in photo mode and only a little in video mode.
  •
  • Sam Scott 2 years ago
Oh right, forgot that video does some cropping to achieve the 16:9 ratio! Thanks for the heads up.
  •
  • Footage looks awesome man. Im about to pickup a 7d to compliment my hpx. Would you say there is any kind of difference in image quality from the sigma 10mm and the Peleng? Or is it just the vig that differs? I have about the same amount of vig with my hpx/xtreme and if the lenses quality show the same i would prefer the wider peleng. Let me know, thanks. Christian
  •
  • RB Umali plus 2 years ago
I think the image quality of the sigma is better than the Peleng but the Peleng is wider. The image quality isn't that much better with the Sigma but it is noticeable.. I prefer the wideness of the Peleng.

I bought one of those lenses off overstock.com - overstock.com/Electronics/Rokinon-8mm-F3.5-Ultra-Wide-Aspherical-Fisheye-Lens-for-Canon-EOS/4340533/product.html

I still like the width of the Peleng better tho..

Myself and Nick Swanson just designed these new handles that fit HD-DSLR's perfectly, specifically designed and affordable for skateboard filmers. Check them out here at our shop:

  •
  • wich one would u recommend for skateboarding, the peleng or the sigma fish eye?
    thxs brotha
  •
  • RB Umali plus 1 year ago
I would recommend the Peleng 8mm or the Samyang/Bower/Opteka/Vivitar 8mm. The Sigma is really nice though, it will probably look good on the 1D Mk IV since it is a 1.3 crop and not a 1.6 like the 7D

hey can u tell me how u made ur handle it looks really nice and good for skating..send me a message if u can..thanks
  • RB Umali plus 1 year ago
The handle in this video is different from the handle i am currently using. I know use the Swandle with a Bogen quick release plate and counterweights from a Glidecam HD2000.

Hi RB. Very nice shot! Im deffinitely buying this one. I was just wondering I you have tested the Canon lens which is bundlel in the kit, I mean the EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6? Or you just buy the body. Because I just find a shop in Brooklyn who is selling the body for 1300 dollars...

And to you have any experiences with Opteka 6.5mm fisheye?

    Thank you for your reply.
  • RB Umali plus 1 year ago
I got the body only. The problem with the lens you have described is that it doesn't have a constant apeture. I try to get lenses that are f/2.8 or faster.

Yes I use the Rokinon 8mm fisheye on the 7D which is exactly the same as the Opteka 6.5mm fisheye. I know it has a different brand name and different width number but trust me it is exactly the same lens. It is great on the 7D
  • Petr Komárek 1 year ago
I have tested the bundled lens and is really crappy. I bought a Canon 50mm f/1.8 and it´s not comparable with the one above.

I also bought the Opteka fisheye, but I havent tested it yet on skate filming, just for photos. Anyway dou you set the focus to infinity or you always try to set the right distance focus? For filming lines its imposible...

And I got a final question if you dont mind... Whats your opinion on IS lenses? Do you use them or you just a good rig?

    Thank.
  • RB Umali plus 1 year ago
I don't use IS lenses because you can hear the IS moving when shooting video. I use steady hands and a tripod whenever possible. I set the focus on the fisheye just to the left of infinity. The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is a great lens, just got one and i love it.
  • Petr Komárek 1 year ago
Ok, thank for the advice. On my old video camera I always turned off the stabilization.

The Sigma 30mm looks great. I tried few shoots with a Canon 28mm and its not bad. Its good that you can be closer to the subject than with the 50mm. I should go to Adorama and checkout some lenses there.

BTW. Where do you shop in NYC? Im here for one month so I want to buy some stuff. Adorama and BH are the best no?
  • RB Umali plus 1 year ago
Yes also check out lensrentals.com before buying any lenses. Adorama and B&H are the best places to shop. They close early on Fridays and are closed on Saturdays.
