So funny, I called your sTATIC video Lynch like, and here you use Angelo Badalamenti. Nice job.

Ever since I started watching Lynch Movies all changed...

allthough I would like to just do something normal for the next project... just a conversation or something...

how did you keep the gain off? I can't seem to find a menu option that let's you dial it to 0db

    Must be this "hack": hv20.com/showthread.php?t=180
  • Johan Malmsten 5 months ago
yup that's the trick I used... should be common knowledge for hv20users by now... ;)

Theres a new method now of achieving no gain with the hv20! put it into spotlight mode and it sets to 0 gain. it will only let you decrease exposure.

This is one of the best tests I have seen so far because it is a true test of the camera's limits with the 0db set and aperture wide open with a film shutter speed. I would have loved to see a gray card at 1 ft. from the candle to see what it looks like (1 lux). Great test!
  • Johan Malmsten 4 months ago
Well, if I had a grey card I would test it... but I'm sorry. I don't.

Man... I have to get out and film something I can edit... been so long since last time... getting abstinence-disorders...

i dont know if its just me doing bad configuration or whenever i record at the dark i get grainy pictures, whats wrong? :(
  • Johan Malmsten 4 months ago
well... take a look at the "hack" that Swedish Kiwi mentions above... (no worries, it's in english;)) It should explain exactly what you need to do...

An even easier method is to put the camera into spotlight mode, try it and you'll be amazed. : )

hehe... I'm too much of a controll-freak to give on to the automatic mechanics in the camera. I want it locked down.

But that doesn't say that it's a bad way to do it... I read all over that people enjoy that way of controlling the gain...

    my favorite low light video.
    Wery well done.
Did you use a 35mm adapter?
  •
  • xoozn 4 months ago
yea I whant to know to, is this wiht 35mm adapret?
  •
  • Johan Malmsten 4 months ago
nnnope... no adapters whatsoever... put anything close enough to the lens and the DOF will diminish...

did u remove pulldown? i've been trying to figure out how to get my hv20 footage to look good on vimeo, could you describe your workflow? would very much appreciate it.
  • Johan Malmsten 3 months ago
well... since I live in PAL-land I don't have to worry about pulldown at all(the 25p footage comes down evenly to the 50i-stream) so I cannot help you on that matter... check out hv20.com with its forum for hv20-owners, most of which live in 24p-NTSC-pulldown-removal-needed areas. You should be able to get help with the workflow over there.
