The idea for a fountain of paint emerged from a series of paintings that I made earlier, with (local) decorative sights and recreative situations as a starting point.
Looking for footage, I found pictures of a fountain in a neighboring town, to which football supporters from the city where I live in, added a yellow substance. Yellow is their team color. Local derbies are often accompanied by playful actions from both supporters groups.
A brilliant intervention on a modernist, concrete, fountain. Actually completely forgotten in public space. An adaptation of an existing work of art by a group of people, who would normally be far removed from 'official' art. This idea was also a reason to put the fountain (back) into a museum context.
Fountains have a universal appeal to people. In addition, the dynamics of wet paint, the bright color traces on the gray concrete, the sound of a babbling stream... And of course my personal interest for paint and painting.
Within the 3D software I work with (Blender), I have mainly focused on the different physics tools 'Fluid Physics' and 'Dynamic Paint'. These are relatively new techniques and therefore a challenge, but above all, it gives me the opportunity to investigate the matter and create digital simulations.
