Previous Week
First off very nice indeed. Second you seem to be the man to answer a few questions perhaps. I have been using the smoke feature for last while, asked these questions, but as of yet no answer. They are here:

I would suggest you search the Smoke thread at blenderartists. I can guarantee you most questions you might think of such as this have / are being discussed there. If not add them there as we all may learn:

Your question is answered in post #504 by shteeve:
"To get volumetric shadows, select the object you want to receive the shadow, and on the material>shadow panel select "receive transparent shadows"
I tried this - it works.
A tip - when you log into blenderartist forum each individual thread has an internal search.
I mention all the above, not as a tut tut, just as a tip worth using for you in the future.
But then maybe you already know this .. so sorry!
