"A group of young artists realize the sea smells like Tulips. Immediately they are enthralled by the sublime scent."
[ A fairly loose adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's short story, "The Sea of Lost Time". I was attracted to the bleakness in the original story, the shallowness of its characters, and its mix of intense romantic longing alongside harsh colonial satire. All the same, I wanted to explore the ugliness of people's selfishness, and how they drag down others into their disappointing fantasies. Therefore, this is an unhappy tale. Unfortunately, it is also rather boring and pretentious, even a little nasty in its judgement, so I am not entirely convinced this piece is totally palatable to some involved, to some who watched, and to some who conceived. But I believe it does what it is supposed to do, so here's to moving on to better and deeper pieces. ]
